The Red Cross Swim Preschool program is for children from 6 months to 5 years old. It has 8 levels that allows children to gain confidence and have fun learning safe swimming skills. The instructors use continuously learning techniques focused on the needs of each child while giving positive encouragement and feedback.

Children will change levels according to their age and skills.

The preschool program takes place in two stages:

Starfish (Étoile de mer)

This level is for babies from 6 to 12 months who are able to hold their head up. Children discover the aquatic environment through games and songs.

Duck (Canard)

canardThis level is for toddlers from 12-24 months. Children begin to gain more confidence in the water, and participate more actively in the games and activities. They will do some activities with the instructor during the session.

Sea turtle (Tortue de mer)

This level is for children from 24 to 36 months. It focuses on the control of the movements in the water through games.

Sea Otter (Loutre de mer)

This level is designed for children of 3 years old. The presence of a parent is required during the first part of the course (on the edge of the pool or in the water) and the parent will gradually leave the pool to let the child be by himself in the water with the instructor.

Children will learn to open their eyes in the water and will perfect floating techniques. They're also introduced to water safety rules that are appropriate to their age.

Salamander (Salamandre)

This level is for children from 3 years old to 3 ½ years old. This is the first level where the child's without the parent in the pool. Children must be able to move in the water, float with some help and keep their heads in the water for at least 3 seconds. With the help of the instructor, they become more familiar with the aquatic environment and will develop swimming techniques.

Moon Fish (Poisson-lune)

This level is for children from 3 and half years old to 4 years old. They will learn to float on their stomach in the water and to float on their back. They will continue to improve their aquatic techniques and get comfortable going in the water. They will also learn safe behavior around the pool and they will start to learn holding their breath under the water.

Crocodile

This level is for children aged 4 to 4 ½ years old. They will learn to jump into the water, to float and to swim on their stomach and on the back without any floater. The instructor will introduce the children to the deep end zone of the pool through swimming activities.

Whale (Baleine)

This level is for children from 4 and a half to 5 years old. They will learn to swim 5 meters on their stomach and on their back without any floater. This level develops the autonomy of the child in the water. Several activities, including diving, will take place in the deep end zone of the pool.
